Are you ready?
Have you ever wondered if you have what it takes to do something truly remarkable, something that will make a difference in your life and the lives of others? Do you feel a desire to rise up to a challenge, succeeding in something meaningful for the world? Have you wished you could do something about the violence, hurt, division, conflict, and evil in the human family?
Look no farther than the Sacrament of Confirmation! Jesus Christ came to save the world, but he never intended to do it alone. By the power of the Holy Spirit, he raised the dead, healed the sick, dispelled darkness, drove out demons, and brought humanity back together. Through the power of the Spirit, he suffered for our sins and rose again victorious over the powers of darkness at war with the human family. He ascended on high, but his mission continues today in the Church.
By the power of the Holy Spirit, we the Church continue doing what Jesus did: spreading the gospel of salvation to the world. The Church binds up the sick and wounded; it searches for and serves the poor, oppressed, and afflicted; it shows the world the good news that Jesus proclaimed; it makes possible a way for us, through the sacraments, to share in the suffering of Christ so as to share in his resurrection and glory.
We do all this by the power of the Sacrament of Confirmation! In Baptism we are united to Christ and therefore united to his Body, the Church. In being united to Christ, we are also called to take part in His mission of salvation. In Confirmation, we are anointed by the same Holy Spirit to accomplish that mission. Although we each play our part in the mission in our own way, we do so by the power of the same Holy Spirit who worked through Christ.
So are you ready? Are you ready for the challenge? Are you willing to serve, lead, and even suffer for the sake of your fellow human being, and ultimately for the glory of God? Now is your time to continue the mission of Christ and His Church to whatever end of the earth He will send you—so let’s begin!
